There are many interesting classes at this year’s festival but there is a particular one that we would like to recommend.
EC3. Video Lecture: Understanding Tango Styles by Esteban & Claudia
🗓 May 2 (Sat) 3:00–4:30pm
Have you ever wondered…
Why do some dancers move in such a compact way, while others expand and travel? Why does one style feel intimate and grounded, and another dramatic and spacious? Why do teachers sometimes contradict each other — yet both seem “right”?
Tango didn’t appear fully formed. It evolved — through crowded milongas, changing music, shifting social codes, and different generations of dancers. Every style has a reason. Every movement has a context.
In this special lecture, Esteban opens his private archive of rare historical videos — material he has collected and studied for years. Through these images, we’ll meet the old milongueros, observe their environments, and begin to understand why they danced the way they did.
This isn’t about nostalgia.
It’s about clarity.
When you understand the functional logic behind each style — social, musical, spatial — your own dancing becomes more conscious, more intentional, and more powerful. You stop copying shapes. You start understanding choices.
And that understanding will transform the way you approach the physical workshops that follow.
If you care about tango not just as steps, but as a living culture — this lecture may quietly change the way you see the dance.
Don’t miss it!
